What's So Special? Sony USB 3.0 Hard Drives?

At first glance, the new Sony HD PG5U portable storage device does not seem all that special. So yes, this drive is sleek and stylish, and then yes, it is USB 3.0, these two features are not exactly innovative. What makes Sony HD PG5U so interesting is when the player is connected to certain BRAVIA HDTV. Put this little device 180g in a new Sony HDTV, and you can instantly record TV programs without the need for a TV tuner card, an HTPC or anything else for that matter.

As an added bonus, if you connect the portable hard drive 500 GB Sony Handycam with direct copy function (as DCR-SR21 and DCR-SX21E), you can easily transfer the video to any portable device free from Hanycam need for a PC. This is ideal for long journeys. If none of these options interest, perhaps the fact that when you connect it to a PlayStation 3, you can watch all the videos (only AVCHD) on it, and so turn your PlayStation 3 for a mini HTPC. If you live in Britain, France or Germany, you will be able to purchase these units by mid-July. No word on price or availability for other countries at this time
